The Arinto grape is a white grape variety, and is one of the “oldest indigenous varieties” in Portugal. Arinto is grown mainly in the regions around Libson on the central coast. The climate in this area is hot and humid, and Arinto does well with its naturally high acidity. At Dell'uva Wines Estate here in the Western Ridge of the Barossa our hot summers are a perfect match for Arinto's preferred Portuguese climate. Arinto's medium-sized bunches are very compact with small grapes. In the region directly north of Lisbon, Arinto makes up most of the blended white wines.
Aromatics of ripe pear and green melon, this wine has a soft yet zesty finish which is a great accompaniment for Asian dishes. Arinto ages well and can take on rich peach flavour. A very exciting variety for us here in the Barossa - and the only example in Australia!
